In 2013, I was stuck in a place of unhealthy habits and low self-esteem. I was overweight, had achy joints, and an unhealthy relationship with food. Having two kids and a busy lifestyle was giving me plenty of excuses to not make a chance. On New Year's Eve of 2013, I made a resolution to start a new diet that would help me get skinny and lose all of my weight, 80 pounds. I joined the local gym and found myself wandering around all of the machines, not sure what I was supposed to do. Somehow, I managed to do this for a couple of weeks with no results. Every time I went to the gym, I would come home and "treat" myself for going. It was a problem. I knew I needed more, but I didn't want to commit. Then, one day I visited my grandmother whom had successfully dropped 3 pant sizes and was now smaller than me. It tore me up inside when she offered to give me her old clothes to wear. I decided then, that I needed to stop making excuses and to do something about my health.
That March, I found myself on the internet searching for answers. I came across a CrossFit gym in my area. I called the number, spoke to Alison, who had a similar story as mine. Right then, I felt a sense of comfort and wanted in. I showed up to her CrossFit box and signed up. She introduced me to a new way of eating called Whole30. I looked at the plan and was immediately shocked at how much of my eating I would have to change. She assured me that I could do anything for 30 days, so I tried it. That is when I found myself looking slimmer, feeling energized, and having NO MORE EXCUSES! Beyond how I looked, I felt better. I had learned that I had been living with chronic knee and back pain and didn't even realize it until it was gone. It was the best decision I have ever made.
